{"id":1752,"date":"2022-09-09T18:53:10","date_gmt":"2022-09-09T18:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arsiunelearning.net\/newweb\/?page_id=1752"},"modified":"2022-09-09T20:10:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-09T20:10:47","slug":"1752-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/arsiunelearning.net\/newweb\/1752-2\/","title":{"rendered":"English Language and Literature Msc"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">Objectives of PG for Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language and Literature<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">\u00a0\u00a0 2.1 Objectives of MA in TEFL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\"><li>The courses in this MA in TEFL program are designed to meet the following major objectives:\u00a0<\/li><li>Acquainting learners with the general theories and approaches that govern the teaching and learning of English language in a foreign language context;\u00a0<\/li><li>Introducing learners to a range of methodologies that could be used in teaching the skills of English language and helping them critically examine the strengths and weaknesses of theses methodologies;\u00a0<\/li><li>Helping learners understand current theoretical assumptions informing the teaching learning of English language globally and locally;<\/li><li>\u00a0Enabling the trainees design valid and reliable tests and assess the classroom performance and overall achievement of their students;\u00a0<\/li><li>Equipping the trainees with the basic skills of designing, analyzing language curriculum, syllabuses and developing and evaluating English language teaching materials that fit to their classroom context;\u00a0<\/li><li>Enhancing the trainees\u2019 skills in using technology for teaching English language;\u00a0<\/li><li>Equipping trainees with basic skills of conducting research for the systematic analysis of problems related to teaching-learning English language at regional and national levels;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.2 Graduate profile of PG Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">The graduate from this MA in TEFL program is expected to have the following profiles:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Teach English as a Foreign Language at preparatory schools and other higher learning institutions;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Serve as English language curriculum designers for various grade levels.<\/li><li>Serve as consultants for those organizations, which work in the area of language education, and materials preparation and evaluation.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Develop, implement, and evaluate language programs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Develop the skills of identifying problems and barriers to the teaching-learning of English and suggesting possible solutions through conducting research in their area<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.3 Teaching and learning method<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lecture\/ discussion&nbsp;<\/li><li>Presentation (both in groups and individually)<\/li><li>Group\/Pair Activities&nbsp;<\/li><li>Whole class participation\/interaction<\/li><li>Seminar<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.4 Program duration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">The programme leading to Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language will take two years or four semesters for regular students; Separate guideline will be used for evaluation of MA Thesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.7 Graduation requirement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">To graduate in TEFL, a trainee needs to:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>have a minimum overall CGPA of 3.00;<\/li><li>not score \u201c D\u201d and less grade in any of the courses<\/li><li>take a minimum of 32 and a maximum of 35 Credit Hours<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.8. Degree Naming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">The Post Graduate Degree to be conferred shall be identified as <strong>\u201cMaster of Arts in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)\u201d<\/strong> (<strong>Amharic= <\/strong><strong>\u201c\u12e8\u12a0\u122d\u1275 \u121b\u1235\u1270\u122d\u1235 \u12f2\u130d\u122a \u12a5\u1295\u130d\u120a\u12dd\u129b\u1295 \u12a5\u1295\u12f0 \u12cd\u132d \u124b\u1295\u124b \u1260\u121b\u1235\u1270\u121b\u122d<\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\">2.9 Quality Assurance and program evaluation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">The quality of teaching can be assured through making references and text books and teaching materials available to learners. Besides, well qualified staff members in different streams of English and better facility of laboratories may enhance the quality of education. Moreover, the potential stakeholders\/employers and the alumni will be consulted to get feedback about the quality of the education program. The quality of the program will be evaluated by both internal and external quality audit as the standards set by HERQA. It will also be assured by a permanent scheme of assessment and evaluation that will be collaboratively undertaken by the department and stakeholders.
